Most Frequently Asked Questions

  1. The most frequently asked questions usually deal with plant licenses such as do I need a license to sell xyz plants?

The Plant Board regulates two broad ranges of plants; the outdoor nursery stock and garden vegetable plants.

Nursery stock means any plant material which will survive our Arkansas winters outside ie., roses, azaleas, shrubs, fruit trees, shade trees, etc.

Vegetable plants - are wheat you would imagine your vegetable garden plot to be ie., cole crops, cucurbits, tomatos, peppers, onions, strawberry plants, etc. The exemption to the rule would be non-edible/ornamental vegetables and all herb plants commonly used for cooking.

Other types of plant materials which DO NOT fall under our regulations are items such as tropical plants(greenhouse or indoor plants) and flowering annual bedding plants ie.,petunias, marigolds, etc.

  1. The Plant Board helps mediate problems which may occur between a nursery or nursery service and a homeowner. These can be contractual or most generally inquires as to why a plant isn’t performing to expectations and is either sickly or dead. The Plant Board can investigate the problem and offer possible solutions in resolving these matters in an un-biased way.
